Lilias Day

Good morning! Just a quick post today to introduce a Making Light bonus pattern – Lilias Day.

I created this design in the winter of 2021, and made two versions: a teeny weeny crop for wearing over dresses . . .

. . . and a longer version with a multi-coloured yoke which quickly became one of my favourite winter staples.

When Kate C said she wanted to knit her own Lilias Day, with Choffer, for Making Light, how could I demur?

It just looks so good I might have to make one too!

We shot these photographs on a very cold and windy day, of which you can get some sense from my heavily wrapped-up photobombing form . . .

. . . but of which the only hint in Tom’s photographs is the gale whistling through Kate C’s mahoosive fake-fur headgear, there to keep her hair in place.

I’ve been using Riach as a Choffer-contrast for many designs in the Making Light collection . . .

. . . but Kate C has used Schiehallion shade Crowdie, and the lighter, brighter contrast lends her yoke a lovely white and wintery feel.

Kate C knitted her Lilias Day in the fourth size, for a loose, comfortable fit with over four inches of positive ease . . .

I have graded this pattern across 12 sizes and 2-3 inch increments, so the sizing is very flexible. You could knit your Lilias Day with less ease, or indeed a little more, depending on your fit preferences and the layers worn underneath.

If you are part of the Making Light club, you’ll receive this pattern today, and it will also be included in the finished collection (and accompanying book). . .

As with all the Making Light designs, we have kits in all sizes in the KDD shop, but you can, of course, make this sweater with any suitable yarn that knits to gauge.

There are just two more lightsome patterns to come, and I’ll introduce the first of those on Friday.

Happy knitting!
